Understanding Council: Will gallery questions equal greater transparency?
The Public Gallery at Fort St. John City Hall’s Council Chambers was filled with expressions of joy and amazement when residents heard Councillor Trevor Bolin’s Notice of Motion, asking that city staff investigate “options for introducing a process to allow members of the public to ask questions during Council meetings.”
More than two months have passed since that August 25 meeting, now all will be revealed on Monday, November 10 when the report is presented to Council at the Committee of the Whole meeting.
Meanwhile, The Broken Typewriter investigated how FSJ City Council remains the only one in the region without an option for questions or comments at a public meeting.
As with the issue of keeping backyard hens, Fort St. John is something of an outlier in the Peace when it comes to allowing the public to ask questions of their elected officials during council meetings.
