Peace River North Green candidate vanishes from list: Only 3 scheduled to debate on Oct 9th
As the leaves fall from the trees this week, so apparently does the BC Green Party candidate for Peace River North.
For a brief period last week, before the nomination period closed, it seemed that voters in Peace River North would have a full slate of candidates to choose from for the position of MLA. In addition to BC Conservative party candidate Jordan Kealy, and Independent candidate Dan Davies, there was NDP candidate Ian McMahon and BC Green Party candidate Brennan Wauters.
Of course, these last two were essentially candidates in name only as neither of them live in the constitutency.
Now that nominations have closed, and the Elections BC website updated, one of those candidates has disappeared.
The BC Green Party’s candidate for Peace River North, Brennan Wauters who describes himself as an “energy literacy promoter,” has vanished from the BC Green Party website. Wauters isn’t listed on the Elections BC site, or anywhere else as a candidate in this provincial election.
Wauters had run for the federal Green Party in several elections, and once for BC Greens, which would indicate that he’s dedicated to representing constituents on an environmental platform.
He was apparently all set to represent the Greens in Peace River North.
Where did he go?
Well, it turns out that his candidacy in Peace River North was withdrawn simply because he was unable to find 75 nominators who are eligible to vote in the electoral district to support his bid to represent the BC Green Party.
All-Candidates’ Forum scheduled for The Lido
Wauters’ withdrawl leaves just three candidates in Peace River North. The two local candidates, Davies and Kealy have been putting up lawn signs throughout the electoral district, while their supporters have been duking it out on social media.
From the NDP candidate, Ian McMahon, not a peep has been heard locally.
With the All-Candidates’ Forum scheduled for 7 p.m., October 9 at The Lido, thanks to support from the Fort St. John Petroleum Association, residents will have the chance not only to hear from their candidates, but ask questions. Questions can be submitted ahead of time through Moose Media, which will be live streaming the event on Facebook and YouTube for those unable to attend in person.
Brian Kirschner of The Lido says that Kealy and Davies have confirmed their attendance, but he’s heard nothing definitive from McMahon yet. So unlike many other candidate forums in the province, such as the Chetwynd and Tumber Ridge forums which were cancelled due to lack of candidate participation, residents of Peace River North will definitely get a chance to hear from their candidates.
The forum will be divided into three parts, with candidates responding to questions that were both submitted in advance and given to the candidates; more advance questions to be read out and answered at the event; and time for questions from the floor.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., the forum begins at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, October 9 – don’t forget to visit Moose FM/Moose Media to submit your questions for the candidates.
