North Peace Pulse: Who else feels like an iceberg this week?
Happy Frosty Friday Everyone!
I don’t know about you, but even though I’ve known since my first winter in FSJ waaaay back in 1981 that it gets this cold, and I can handle it, the first frozen nose-hairs of the season always manage to catch me by surprise! It’s worse when our new puppy needs to go out at 3 a.m., and thinks its a good time to just chill in the snow. Guess that’s what you get with a Bernese Mountain Dog, eh?
Anyhow, here’s the second edition of North Peace Pulse, with some of the news from around the region.
Here’s some of the things that happened in the North Peace this week:
FSJ Huskies are topping the list again this week as the annual Fill the Bus campaign collected 5,172 pounds of food, and $3,297.55 in cash donations.
Extreme cold on Friday lead to all School District 60 buses being cancelled and the FSJ Public Library cancelling all programs, and remaining closed for the day. The Library will resume normal hours and programs on Saturday, Dec 13.
On Dec 6, the Fort St. John Flyers lost to the Valleyview Jets 7-5 at home. The Flyers game scheduled for Saturday, Dec 13 in Dawson Creek has been postponed until January 15.
While the Flyers were at home, the Huskies travelled to Fairview on Dec 6, triumphing over the home team 5-4 in overtime. The Huskies next game is on Sunday, Dec 14 at the North Peace Arena.
The City of Fort St. John awarded the contract for the construction of the new water reservoir on 106th Street to Chandos Construction LP of Edmonton for $7,996,330
City Council also adopted Council Procedure Amendment Bylaw Bo, 2626, 2025 which adds a section where the public can ask questions, to the section previously reserved for media only.
That’s all for this week! If you’re out and about, stay warm and be prepared for more snow Saturday afternoon, Environment Canada has forecast upwards of 20 cm more.
