Crime down two months running say RCMP
Calls for service received by the Fort St. John RCMP for August and September were down from the same period in 2024, according to stats provided by Acting Officer In Charge, Sergeant Jaime Moffat to Fort St. John City Council for the October 14 regular meeting.
Year-to-date numbers for August show that there was a 2.5 percent decrease in calls for service with 7,857 calls reported versus 8,060 for the same period in 2024. Similarly, September’s year-to-date numbers – 8,872 versus 9,093 in 2024 – show a decrease of 2.4 percent, or 18 calls from the previous year.
Most of the calls for service were in the city, with less than 2,000 of the year-to-date totals coming from the rural areas.
While August’s stats showed the number of reported Theft of Motor Vehicle Over $5,000 and Theft of Motor Vehicles Under increased from July, other theft categories are down, leading to an overall reduction in reported crimes.
