Growing Pains
Like all creations, or maybe it just applies to kids and news websites, The Broken Typewriter is experiencing some growing pains, which is not necessarily a bad thing. But it means that I’ve had to make some changes to streamline the publishing process while maximizing all the technical and social media aspects of the website.
I also want to make the reading experience better for The Broken Typewriter’s subscribers. It can’t be fun getting gigantic, long emails from me whenever I post a particularly long article. I know they’re long because Substack tells me when the email limit is reached.
Since the longer form articles are the norm here, I had to find a way around that. There’s also some subscribers who have unsubscribed because of the way the Substack app functions on their phones – not everyone wants to update their systems all time – and have gone over to The Broken Typewriter’s website, where I have been publishing the same content for the past two and a half years.
Substack has the best newsletter and subscriber functions, but WordPress has the best layouts, and the pictures look much better there. Not Substack’s fault, it’s designed for text, but as you know, The Broken Typewriter is more than just words. As a former newspaper person, I love a good page design!
So, after much research, pacing and brain-clearing gardening this is what I’ve come up with:
You’ll continue to get an email every time a new article is published. But it will be smaller, an excerpt of the article and a link to The Broken Typewriter’s WordPress website.
You will continue to get the same great local news content you signed up for, just delivered a little differently.
All special paid subscriber content will be posted only on Substack. Same goes for The Week in Review.
Technology is not my forte, so I hope you find the changes as efficient and helpful as they are intended to be.
Hope you all had a wonderful BC Day!!

This will work just fine!!
